Frequently Asked QuestionsIf I have a microchip implanted, isn’t that good enough? There are approximately 29 different microchip companies however few veterinarians are able to read every type of microchip. Most manufacturers make their brand of microchips readable only when their scanner is used. There are a large number of veterinarians that don’t even own a scanner with the ability to read chips, but almost all have a computer and can read the Koogatag. Also, at this time microchips don’t contain any medical data. What is a USB storage device and how does the Koogatag work?A USB (Universal Serial Bus) storage device is a miniature disk drive that plugs into your computer and supplies a very quick and user-friendly method of transferring data from one computer or device to another. Most computers have an easily accessible USB port to plug these devices into (usually right on the front of desktops). You can save files from your veterinarian onto the device just as you would save them onto a file on the computer, in the same manner, you can also download this information onto your computer at home and upload the information to the KoogaPet.com website to keep your pet’s information current. Does my computer have a USB port? If it doesn’t, how can I use your service?USB ports were introduced in 1997 so odds are that your computer was manufactured after that and is properly equipped. As a matter of fact, you may be using one right now and not even know it. Many devices such as printers and keyboards now connect to your computer using a USB plug (there is a picture of a USB port below). If your computer is not USB equipped, adapters can be purchased for as little as $6.
In what format is my pet’s information saved? All information will be saved in an Adobe Acrobat (PDF) file. Adobe Acrobat PDF is the most popular portable document reader on the market and as such is installed on just about every computer. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, you can download the most current version for free at http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/. Do I need to upload the files provided by my veterinarian to my Koogatag or will they do it for me?You may ask your veterinarian to upload only the important information or you can do it yourself when you get home. How will the Koogatag help my lost pet? What it will do is ensure that when someone finds your pet, they will be able to call an attended “hotline” 24/7 and then you are promptly and securely notified. It also enables the person who finds your pet to be provided with proper care instructions specific to your pet’s needs in the event you are unable to be reached. If you pet runs off, anyone finding your pet will be able to go to the nearest medical facility for help. Based upon your “advanced directive” (which instructs our team of specialists manning our lost pet hotline as to how you would want us to handle certain situations in case we can’t reach you) we’ll be able to inform the veterinarian of your instructions. Did you know: Most veterinarian offices will not treat an injured animal unless payment is made up front? What if I lose or misplace my Koogatag? Is all of my pet’s medical information lost? No. All of the data on your Koogatag is backed up on our website. If you have misplaced your device, contact us and we can send you another one. Once you receive it you then can log on and restore the information instantly. If you have additional questions, email us here. |
